How we build our frames

In 1817 the German, Baron Karl von Draisin, invented the first two-wheeled, steerable, human propelled machine. Constructed almost entirely of wood, the draisine weighed 22 kg (48 pounds), had brass bushings within the wheel bearings, iron shod wheels, a rear-wheel brake and 152 mm (6 inches) of trail of the front-wheel for a self-centering caster effect. In 1863 a French metal worker added a rotary crank and pedals to the front wheel hub to create the first pedal-operated bicycle as we understand the word today.

In the past nearly 200 years from the early Boneshaker and High-Wheel bicycle to the modern day bicycle the principles have not changed! Currently bicycles hold a special place in modern life. Bicycles are used for transportation, sport and life-style.

With the history of the development of the bicycle in the past 200 years in mind we at UNOVELO have created unique bicycle framesets for the cyclo-sportive cyclist. We do not claim to have re-invented the bicycle, as we can only improve it to make cycling more comfortable and more fun. Our focus is not only to make those little improvements but also to add an ease of use and overall esthetic to it. Last but not least to make these developments possible, we at UNOVELO find it of the utmost importance to hear from our UNOVELO riders about their cycling experiences.
